Offering doula and lactation services to parents in Iowa and Illinois

What is a doula?

A doula is a trained professional who provides emotional, physical, and educational support to women and birthing people throughout their pregnancy, labor, and early postpartum.

The word originates from the ancient Greek language meaning “a woman who serves” but a doula can be a woman, man, nonbinary, or another gender. Their goal is to increase positive birthing outcomes at hospitals, birthing centers, or home births.

Safera? Sahh-fair-ah?

Why Safera?

Many people have asked me how I came up with the wildest name for my doula business. Is it related to sapphires? Is it something with the color blue? Did you randomly pick it out? Luckily, the story is one I love to tell.
